Job Summary:

We are looking for a responsible, experienced, and nurturing Child Caregiver to provide dedicated care to a 4 year-and a 1 yaer old children  in a private household setting. The caregiver will ensure the children’s safety, emotional well-being, and healthy development while supporting their bilingual (English and Punjabi) communication and religious values.

The role requires someone with strong moral character, excellent interpersonal skills, and a genuine passion for child care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and care for two children in the employer’s home during parents’ absence.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment where the children can learn and play.
  • Prepare and serve healthy Punjabi and Western-style meals for the children, accommodating taste preferences and nutritional needs.
  • Help children with daily routines, including dressing, hygiene, school preparation, and after-school activities.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate educational and recreational activities—both indoor and outdoor—to support physical, emotional, and social growth.
  • Encourage children’s bilingual (Punjabi and English) communication and provide a culturally respectful environment that supports the family’s religious practices and values.
  • Foster independence, good manners, and positive behavior.
  • Accompany children to and from school, recreational, or cultural activities as needed.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties related to the children (e.g., cleaning their play areas, dishes, laundry).
  • Maintain open, professional communication with parents regarding the children’s daily routines, progress, and well-being.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of secondary school required.
  • Training: Completion of a training program in child care, health care, or a related field is an asset.
  • Experience: Experience in child care or a related field is an asset.
  • References: Two professional or personal references related to child care experience are required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate the ability to care for children responsibly, affectionately, and patiently.
  • Must be fluent in English and Punjabi to communicate effectively with the children and family.
  • Ability to plan and prepare nutritious meals (Punjabi and English-style).
  • Basic knowledge of child development, safety, and nutrition.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and order in children’s spaces.
  • Reliable, organized, honest, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Certifications:

  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
    Employer may pay the upfront cost of obtaining certification; the cost will be reimbursed to the employer through payroll deductions during employment.
  • Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) required prior to employment.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Work setting: Employer’s private home (Surrey, BC).
  • Non-smoking environment.
  • May require light household tasks related to child care.
  • Must be comfortable with repetitive tasks and maintaining a structured routine.

Hours and Compensation:

  • Hours: 30–40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 6–8 hours daily.
  • Wage: $19.00 to $22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
    (Complies with the current prevailing wage for NOC 44100 in Surrey, BC: $17.85–$28.00/hr.)
  • Overtime: Paid as per BC Employment Standards.
  • Vacation: 10 paid vacation days per year or 4% vacation pay paid on every pay cheque.
  • Other Benefits: Statutory holidays and employment protections as per BC Employment Standards Act.
