Mechanical Firestoppers

Brunco Insulation Ltd. located at 1290 Crestlawn Dr., Mississauga, Ontario, L4W 1A6, is seeking 12 experienced Mechanical Firestoppers to work at construction sites generally throughout the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding cities, including from Barrie to Hamilton. The Mechanical Firestoppers will be responsible for installing insulation and firestopping systems around mechanical pipe penetrations in residential constructions projects, ensuring compliance with building codes, fire resistance ratings, and manufacturer specifications. This is a full-time, permanent position of between 30-40 hours/week. The salary for this role is $40/hour with discretionary performance based bonuses plus dental and vision care insurance. We are looking for Mechanical Firestoppers to start as soon as possible. The language of work is English.

The main responsibilities and duties of this position include:

• Preparing surfaces by cleaning, sanding, or priming to ensure proper adhesion of insulation materials and firestop sealants
• Mixing and applying plaster compounds and fire-resistant sealants (e.g., Tremco, Metacaulk) as part of firestopping and thermal insulation systems
• Measuring, cutting, and installing mineral fiber batt insulation around piping systems and penetrations using hand and power tools
• Operating tooling equipment, dispenser guns, and nozzles to apply insulating materials and sealants to required depths with smooth finishes
• Installing fire-rated insulation assemblies and protective devices for combustible piping in accordance with code and manufacturer specifications
• Reading and interpreting construction drawings, insulation details, and shop drawings to verify site conditions and ensure proper material installation
• Coordinating with mechanical foremen, finishing superintendents, and project managers to align insulation tasks with construction timelines
• Conducting site inspections of insulation and firestopping installations to confirm compliance with project specifications and fire resistance ratings
• Assembling fire-rated devices for combustible type-piping
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area in accordance with company policies and construction site housekeeping standards
• Following all job site safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment when handling insulation materials and equipment

The following skills are required for this position:

• Experience in hi-rise residential construction sector
• Valid Rectorseal or Tremco Firestop Installer certificate
• Valid WHMIS training certificate
• Valid 4 Steps Awareness training certificate
• Valid Working at Heights training certificate
• Valid Aerial Platform training certificate
