We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tax Accountant to join our team at SUN, CPA, PROFESSIONAL CORPORATION, a dynamic accounting firm specializing in both personal and corporate tax services. This position is ideal for professionals with extensive public accounting experience who are looking to advance their career in tax advisory, accounting, and client consulting within a supportive and collaborative environment.

In this role, you will take a lead in managing complex tax and accounting engagements, including personal tax planning and filings, non-resident tax matters, new housing rebates, foreign buyer tax rebates, bookkeeping, corporate tax returns, and financial statement preparation. You will also provide advisory services on business structuring, business plans for financing, and tax compliance.

You will work directly with clients, provide proactive tax planning advice, and represent clients in dealings with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), including tax reviews and audits.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify clients' financial goals and objectives
  • Plan, set up and administer accounting systems
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance to accounting standards, procedures and internal control
  • Prepare financial information for individuals, departments or companies
  • Prepare reports and audit findings
  • Recommend improvements to accounting systems and management practices
  • Conduct field audits of businesses to ensure compliance with provisions of the Income TaxAct, the Canadian Business Corporations Act or other statutory requirements
  • Prepare income tax returns from accounting records
  • Examine accounting records
  • Provide financial, business and tax advice
  • Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
  • Oversee payroll administration
  • Audit accounting records to determine income, exemptions, payable taxes, compliance with reporting regulations and existence of fraud
  • Provide expertise in response to clients’ needs

 


Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in a Canadian public accounting firm, with a focus on tax and accounting services.
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax regulations, particularly in personal tax, corporation tax and non-resident tax matters.
  • Familiarity with business structuring, tax planning, and CRA audit procedures.
  • Oversee business tax account services, including the registration, dissolution, or revival of GST/HST, payroll, and corporation numbers
  • Represent clients in CRA audits, tax reviews, and dispute resolution processes, including preparing supporting documentation and correspondence.
  • Communicating and preparing supporting documents with CRA for tax review and audit
  • Proficiency in accounting/tax software such as QuickBooks, CanTax, Simply Accounting, and ProFile.
  • Proficiency in computer technology: MS Windows, MS Office, and MS Excel
  • Strong analytical, Judgmental and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail orientation, due diligence and reliability.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Fluency in English, the second language is asset to effectively communicate with our diverse client base.
