Nature of position:     Permanent, full-time (40 hours per week)

 

Wage:                          $40.00 per hour

 

Vacation:                     10 days annually

JOB DUTIES. The following duties will be performed in this position:

 

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware
  • Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, hospitals, industrial plants, and other establishments
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of job sites at all times
  • Assist with other carpentry and general construction tasks onsite
  • Prepare cost estimates for clients
  • Represent the company in client-facing work

 

REQUIREMENTS. The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:

 

  • Completion of secondary school
  • Experience using carpentry tools and hand and power tools
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints
  • Familiarity with all types of concrete finishing
  • Class 5 driver’s license is required
  • First Aid (Level 1) is an asset
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 150 lbs.
  • Positive, professional attitude
  • Attention to detail, including ability to multitask
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often with changing deadlines and priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
