Job Title: Chef (Vegetarian Section) (Full-time position, 4 vacancies)
Work Experience - must provide reference attesting at least 3 years of experience in:
- Chef in a Chinese restaurant or catering services; and
- Making Chinese vegetarian cuisine
Work Locations:
- Primary location – Peterborough at the temple kitchen we manage: (Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden - 708 Ski Hill Road, Bethany, ON L0A 1A0)
- Secondary location – Mississauga at our restaurant kitchen: 888 Dundas Street East, Unit C3-C4, Mississauga Ontario L4Y 4G6
Duties:
- Manage and supervise the kitchen staff, providing guidance and oversight to the activities of junior chefs, cooks, and kitchen workers in the Vegetarian Section
- Contribute to menu planning and participate in the food preparation/presentation and cooking activities of Chinese vegetarian dishes at the restaurant and catering services;
- Collaborate and consult with clients on menu planning on catering services/ banquets to accommodate special dietary requests or preferences, particularly in a vegetarian context;
- Estimate food requirements, food, labour, and kitchen supplies costs for the restaurant and its catering operations;
- Demonstrate techniques and use of equipment to kitchen staff, training them in the specialized cooking skills of Chinese vegetarian cuisine;
- Collaborate with the Vegetarian Section team to create new, innovative Chinese vegetarian recipes and adapt traditional dishes to cater to a diverse clientele, with a focus on developing Buddhist vegetarian meals for temple goers.
Terms: 2-years (expect January 2024 – December 2025)
Remuneration: $27.00 per hour / 35 hours per week
