Job Description

Parminder Sanghera is a blueberry producer in lower mainland British Columbia. We currently have need for three additional General Farm Workers for our farm.

Job Duties

• Manually perform field work, pruning, thinning, soil preparation, ploughing, planting, weeding, cultivating, harvesting, washing, sorting, packing of the field crops

• Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops

• Maintain or assist in the maintenance of farm facilities and farm infrastructure including cleaning

• Lifting containers, packing, tying, loading and unloading containers

• Examining produce for quality and prepare for market

• Loading, Unloading, transporting produce into trucks etc

• Using fertilizers, detecting disease and other problems in crops

• Protecting crops from weeds & pests by taking appropriate actions

• Informing farm owner of crop progress

• Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungi, and weeds (only after getting the license or if you have one)

• Install and remove bird control devices, fences, wires for crop plants

• Apply sawdust mulch

Skill Requirements

Education: No formal education requirement

Experience: No prior experience required. On the Job Training will be provided. Basic farm knowledge, familiarity with farm equipment and machinery will be an asset.

Language: No Specific language requirement

Working & Physical Capabilities

• Ability to walk stands, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks.

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.

• Ability to work long hours for with repetitive tasks.

• Ability to work in various environments cold, damp & dust.

• Ability to handle heavy workloads required.

Other Information

The candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Benefits

We have consistent year-round work available with two weeks of vacation annually as per BC Employment Standards. Accommodation can also be provided at $30/week only.
