 Commercial Fisheries Coordinator

The Conseil de la Nation Micmac de Gespeg is at the heart of the life of its community and wishes to ensure its full development as a Nation for generations to come. We are looking for an individual with autonomy, leadership, and skills in managing employees who will work under the supervision of Gespeg’s Commercial Fisheries Management. 

 

Place of Employment:           Gaspé

Salary:                                    Between $53,000 and $70,000/year depending on experience and skills

Working conditions:               35 hours/week

2 weeks of vacation after one year, multiple sick and mobile leaves, group insurance and retirement plan

 

The Commercial Fisheries Coordinator plays a key role in the team. Its main responsibilities are

  • Management of commercial fishing operations, including the implementation of fishing plans and real-time data monitoring.
  • Supervision and management of human resources on the site.
  • Participation in staff recruitment, employee evaluation and conflict resolution.
  • Training of staff on health and safety issues.
  • Management of inventories, equipment, and supplies.
  • Supervision of purchases and works.

 

Job Requirements                 

  • DEP in professional fishing or equivalent or related experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the commercial fisheries or in operations management.
  • A driver’s licence is required (class 5).
  • Excellent knowledge of fishing laws and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of boating safety aspects.
    • Basic knowledge of marine biology and fisheries dynamics.
    • Knowledge of spoken English and French.
    • Knowledge of the Fisheries Management System.

 

 

Main personal qualities

The ideal candidate demonstrates positive, natural, and engaging leadership. He or she has tact, problem-solving skills, and the ability to organize on his/her own. Knowledge of the Nation Micmac de Gespeg is an asset.
