CEC Corporation is an industry leader in the manufacturing of advanced technical adhesive formulations based in British Columbia. We specialize in engineering two-component epoxies, rubber-toughened cyanoacrylates, polyolefin bonding adhesives, and methyl methacrylate (MMA) structural systems for high-performance industrial applications.

The Research and Development (R&D) Manager is responsible for leading the scientific research and product development initiatives within our chemical laboratories. This role organizes, directs, and evaluates all activities corresponding to our applied scientific work in product development. The successful candidate will drive innovation in chemical formulations, ensure rigorous quality control, and lead a highly skilled team of scientists to meet both commercial demands and environmental compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic R&D Management: Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the daily activities and long-term strategic operations of the scientific research and development department. This includes establishing R&D roadmaps, managing departmental budgets, allocating laboratory resources, and aligning innovation goals with overall corporate business objectives.
  • Scientific Leadership & Product Innovation: Participate directly in the theoretical and applied scientific work of the department. Lead the end-to-end design, development, prototyping, and rigorous inspection of new technical products, ensuring they meet exact performance and durability specifications from conceptualization to final release.
  • Policy, Standard & Compliance Development: Develop, integrate, and implement comprehensive policies, strict safety standards, and operational procedures for all scientific and technical work. Guarantee that all product formulations and laboratory processes comply with local and international environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Cross-Functional Team Coordination: Assign, coordinate, and thoroughly review the technical work of the department and specialized project teams. Collaborate closely with the manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing departments to ensure a seamless transition of new products from the laboratory to full-scale commercial production.
  • Human Resources & Talent Management: Recruit specialized laboratory personnel, research scientists, and technicians. Oversee the continuous professional development, performance evaluation, and maintenance of staff competence in required scientific and engineering disciplines.
  • Technical Communication & Client Relations: Consult and negotiate directly with industrial clients to thoroughly understand and respond to their unique technical requirements. Prepare detailed product specifications, deliver technical presentations, and clearly explain complex research proposals to both technical partners and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Data Analysis & Executive Reporting: Review ongoing project activities, analyze complex empirical testing data, and troubleshoot technical failures during the development phase. Present comprehensive scientific research reports, timeline updates, and development findings to executive stakeholders to guide strategic decision-making.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a related scientific discipline or industrial manufacturing environment, featuring a proven track record of managing R&D teams and successfully launching new products to market.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated applied knowledge in product formulation, materials science, industrial testing methodologies, and the technical lifecycle of scaling products from R&D to mass manufacturing.
  • Managerial Skills: Strong capabilities in the management of financial, material, and personnel resources, including advanced project management and R&D budget oversight.
  • Core Competencies: Excellent critical thinking, complex problem-solving abilities, deductive and mathematical reasoning, and a strong aptitude for detailed scientific data analysis and process optimization.

Compensation & Benefits

Wage: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour.
Benefits: Paid vacation and all federal and provincial benefits as regulated.
