We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented General Accountant to support our financial operations, maintain accurate accounting records and provide timely financial information to management.

The successful candidate will work closely with management and operational personnel to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective expense monitoring and compliance with applicable Canadian accounting and tax requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring that financial transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting periods.

  2. Prepare monthly bank, credit-card, balance-sheet and general-ledger reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and implement necessary corrections.

  3. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including reviewing supplier invoices, processing payments, issuing customer invoices, monitoring outstanding balances and following up on overdue accounts.

  4. Record and reconcile revenue from IT services, equipment sales, networking projects, security-system installations and other company contracts, as applicable.

  5. Monitor project-related expenditures, including equipment purchases, materials, subcontractor charges and other direct costs, and prepare cost summaries for management.

  6. Review expense claims, purchase records, supplier statements and supporting documentation to ensure transactions are properly authorized, classified and recorded.

  7. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including income statements, balance-sheet schedules, cash-flow reports and management accounting summaries.

  8. Assist with budgeting, cash-flow forecasting, expense analysis and comparisons of actual financial results against budgeted amounts.

  9. Prepare and reconcile GST/HST accounts, maintain supporting documentation and assist with the timely preparation and filing of required indirect tax returns.

  10. Maintain payroll records, reconcile payroll expenses and statutory deductions, and assist with payroll remittances and year-end reporting.

  11. Maintain fixed-asset registers, record equipment acquisitions and disposals, calculate depreciation and reconcile relevant balance-sheet accounts.

  12. Prepare working papers, account schedules and supporting documents for year-end financial statements and corporate income tax filings, coordinating with external accounting professionals where required.

  13. Monitor outstanding customer balances, supplier obligations and other financial commitments, providing management with timely updates on cash-flow requirements.

  14. Review accounting procedures and internal controls, identify discrepancies and recommend improvements to financial recordkeeping and reporting processes.

  15. Maintain organized financial records and supporting documents in accordance with applicable Canadian tax requirements and corporate recordkeeping obligations.

  16. Prepare ad hoc financial reports, reconciliations and analyses requested by management to support operational and business decisions.

  • Professional accounting qualifications or progress toward a recognized accounting designation are considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and applicable GST/HST requirements.

  • Familiarity with full-cycle bookkeeping, general-ledger accounting, account reconciliations and financial reporting.

  • Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage or comparable financial management systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard business applications.
