Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in preparing authentic Indian dishes, handling large kitchen volumes, maintaining strict hygiene standards, and working collaboratively in a team environment.

This position is eligible for candidates seeking sponsorship through the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) in Thunder Bay.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Prepare, cook, and present authentic Indian dishes, specialized biryanis, curries, tandoori items, and appetizers according to standard recipes and quality control guidelines.

• Oversee daily kitchen operations and assist in planning menus and determining food portion sizes.

• Inspect food preparation, cooking areas, and serving setups to ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations (WHMIS & safe food handling).

• Monitor inventory, manage stock rotation (FIFO), and assist in ordering food supplies and kitchen essentials.

• Prepare kitchen equipment, prep ingredients (chopping, marinating, spice mixing), and maintain clean work stations.

• Assist in training new kitchen staff and entry-level team members on food preparation and kitchen procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience/culinary training.

• Work Experience: Minimum 1 year of continuous, paid work experience as a Cook or Line Cook (preference given to candidates with experience in Indian culinary/biryani preparation).

• Language: Functional English proficiency (spoken and written).

• Certifications: Food Safety Certificate / Safe Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to start).

• Work Conditions & Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, handling heavy workloads, standing for extended periods, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure during peak dining hours.
