Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and work specifications to determine the required materials, dimensions, welding procedures, and fabrication methods.
Measure, mark, cut, fit, and assemble metal components used in the fabrication and installation of railings, patio structures, frames, gates, posts, brackets, and related metal products.
Operates manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to join metal components according to project specifications.
Set up welding machines and select appropriate electrodes, filler materials, shielding gases, and welding parameters based on the type and thickness of metal being welded.
Perform tack welding and finish welding to assemble metal components and ensure proper alignment, strength, and structural integrity.
Operate manual and semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment to cut metal components to specified shapes and dimensions.
Operate metalworking equipment such as brakes, shears, grinders, drills, and other machinery to cut, bend, straighten, shape, and prepare metal components for welding and fabrication.
Perform brazing and soldering of metal components where required.
Grind, clean, smooth, and finish welded surfaces by removing slag, spatter, excess weld material, and other imperfections.
Inspect completed welds and fabricated components for proper dimensions, alignment, weld quality, and compliance with drawings and specifications.
Identify and repair defective, damaged, or worn metal components by welding additional layers of metal and completing required grinding and finishing.
Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in safe operating condition and follow workplace health and safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
