Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Machinist to operate and maintain computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision metal components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up CNC machinery, selecting appropriate tools and materials, monitoring machining operations, and inspecting finished products to ensure they meet required quality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and machining instructions.

• Set up and operate CNC machines such as CNC lathes, mills, machining centres, and related equipment.

• Load and secure raw materials, workpieces, cutting tools, and fixtures into CNC machines.

• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters based on the material and production requirements.

• Enter, modify, and verify CNC programs and offsets as required.

• Perform machine setups, including tool changes, workpiece alignment, fixture installation, and setting machine coordinates.

• Monitor machine operations to ensure proper performance and identify issues such as tool wear, vibration, dimensional variation, or machining defects.

• Measure and inspect machined components using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.

• Make necessary adjustments to machine settings, tool offsets, and programs to maintain required dimensions and tolerances.

• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections and ensure products comply with quality-control requirements.

• Deburr, clean, and finish machined components as required.

• Troubleshoot machining problems and make adjustments to improve productivity, accuracy, and product quality.

• Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting.

• Replace worn or damaged cutting tools and report machine or equipment problems to the appropriate supervisor.

• Maintain accurate production, inspection, and machine-operation records.

• Follow workplace health and safety procedures, company policies, and quality-control standards.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

• Work closely with supervisors, engineers, quality-control personnel, and other production staff to meet production schedules.

• Ensure finished components are produced within specified dimensions, tolerances, and quality requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

• Completion of secondary school is generally required.

• Completion of an apprenticeship program or relevant technical training in machining is an asset.

• Previous experience operating and setting up CNC machines is preferred.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

• Knowledge of CNC machine operation, tooling, cutting processes, and machining techniques.

• Ability to use precision measuring instruments.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to machining.

• Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.

• Ability to follow safety procedures and production instructions.

Working Conditions

• Full-time position in a manufacturing or machining environment.

• May involve standing for extended periods and handling metal materials and components.

• May require working around operating machinery, metal chips, cutting fluids, noise, and industrial equipment.

• Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.

• Overtime or shift work may be required depending on production schedules.

Wages - $37 per hour
