Job Description

Best Link Paving Limited is seeking an experienced Pipeline Construction Supervisor to oversee daily field operations and coordinate construction crews involved in pipeline installation, site servicing, excavation, grading, backfilling, paving and related civil construction activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing workers, equipment and materials, monitoring project progress, supporting safe work practices, and ensuring that site activities are completed in accordance with project requirements and company standards.

Main Duties

  • Plan, organize and supervise the daily activities of heavy equipment operators, crew foremen, helpers and other site personnel involved in civil construction and pipeline-related work.
  • Assign work tasks to field crews and coordinate daily labour, equipment and material requirements based on project schedules and site priorities.
  • Oversee the deployment and use of construction equipment and specialized vehicles, including excavators, dump trucks, dozers, rollers, vacuum trucks, cranes and concrete pump trucks.
  • Review construction drawings, utility information, permits and site conditions with crew leaders before work begins to ensure that excavation areas, elevations, pipe grades and other site requirements are properly understood.
  • Direct field crews performing excavation, trench preparation, pipe installation, grading, backfilling, compaction, demolition and foundation preparation work.
  • Monitor storm, sanitary and watermain installation activities to ensure pipe alignment, depth, slope, bedding, backfill and compaction meet project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Check equipment condition and coordinate maintenance, repairs or replacement equipment when operational issues arise.
  • Coordinate the ordering and delivery of construction materials and supplies, including pipe, fittings, aggregates, concrete and backfill materials, and track their use on site.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, municipal inspectors, suppliers, subcontractors and internal crews to coordinate inspections, site access, equipment scheduling and other project requirements.
  • Monitor worker compliance with health and safety procedures, personal protective equipment requirements and company policies, and assist with arranging job-specific training when required.
  • Maintain and review daily site documentation, including progress records, equipment usage, material deliveries, completed work quantities, photographs and incident reports.
  • Identify work-site issues that may affect productivity, safety or project timelines and coordinate appropriate corrective action with management and field personnel.

Employment Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Several years of relevant experience in pipeline construction, civil construction, heavy equipment operations or a related field are required.
  • Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience is required.
  • Experience coordinating heavy equipment operators and field construction crews is required.
  • Knowledge of excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, compaction and underground servicing work is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility locates and site specifications.
  • Knowledge of construction site safety procedures and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple workers, equipment resources and changing site priorities.
  • Valid driver’s licence and relevant construction or safety certifications are assets. Specific mandatory licence or certification requirements are to be confirmed by the employer.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Duties may be carried out outdoors and at different project locations.
  • The position may involve exposure to noise, dust, construction equipment and changing weather conditions.
  • Work schedules and priorities may vary depending on project and operational requirements.
  • Overtime or schedule changes may occasionally be required.
