About the position

Gemco Farms Inc. is seeking three farm labourers to assist with crop production. The farm produces sweet corn; corn, including organic and seed corn; black beans; winter wheat; adzuki beans; kidney and other beans; soybeans, including pedigreed, organic and tofu varieties; and spring wheat.

Main duties

• Plant, cultivate and harvest field crops.
• Remove weeds and perform general crop maintenance.
• Sort, clean and prepare harvested crops for storage or shipment.
• Load, unload and transfer crops, supplies, farm produce and farm materials.
• Clean harvest bins, farm equipment, tools and work areas.
• Assist with general farm maintenance and maintenance of equipment and tools.
• Inspect crops and report signs of disease, insects or other crop problems.
• Occasionally operate a tractor and other farm implements on the farm, as necessary and incidental to the general farm labour duties.
• Perform other general farm labour duties related to crop production.

Working conditions, housing and transportation

• Physically demanding work involving standing, bending, lifting, repetitive tasks, outdoor work and varying weather conditions.
• Work may be performed at more than one Gemco Farms Inc. farm property in the Sparta area.
• Employer-provided transportation between the employer-provided housing and the work location(s) will be provided at no cost to the workers.
• Employer-provided off-site accommodation will be provided at a cost of $30 per week, subject to applicable program requirements and an approved housing inspection.
• Utilities are included. Workers will have private bedrooms.
