Responsibilities
Tasks
- Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems to restore proper vehicle operation and performance.
- Diagnose faults and malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace the unit based on the condition of the vehicle and recommended repair requirements.
- Repair or replace mechanical units or components, including worn, damaged or defective parts, as required.
- Estimate parts and labour costs based on the required repairs, replacement components and anticipated service time.
- Perform scheduled maintenance service, including inspecting, servicing and maintaining various mechanical components to ensure reliable vehicle performance and safe operation.
- Determine the appropriate repair procedures and sequence of work for complex mechanical repairs based on diagnostic findings, manufacturer specifications and vehicle condition.
- Take responsibility for diagnosing complex mechanical problems and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions based on inspection findings and vehicle condition.
- Assist in prioritizing repair work and coordinate the completion of complex mechanical repairs to ensure work is performed efficiently and according to required quality and safety standards.
- Review completed repair work and conduct final inspections and performance testing to ensure that vehicles meet required operating and safety specifications before being returned to service.
- Test and adjust units to specifications after completing repairs to ensure safe and proper operation.
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed and document parts replaced, repairs completed and service details.
- Review work orders and discuss work with supervisor to clarify repair requirements, priorities and any additional concerns identified during inspection.
- Provide customer service by explaining completed repairs, maintenance requirements and any additional service recommendations.
