Job Description:

The applicant must be a team player who is punctual, proactive, outgoing, dependable and able to work independently when required. As a full-time Telecommunication Technician, you will perform the following duties:

• Install, maintain and service telecommunications equipment according to work order specifications, applicable standards and established procedures.
• Install, arrange, remove, repair and maintain telephone equipment, wiring and associated hardware.
• Inspect and test the operation of telecommunications equipment, telephone systems, customer lines and related devices.
• Operate computerized testing systems to conduct service tests on customer lines and telecommunications equipment.
• Diagnose and locate equipment, transmission, network and connectivity faults.
• Determine the nature, cause and location of telecommunications equipment and service problems.
• Test installed telephone systems to locate transmission faults and other service issues.
• Analyze test results and adjust, modify, replace or repair switching systems, networks, associated equipment and software.
• Adjust and calibrate telecommunications equipment to improve its operation and performance.
• Repair or replace defective, damaged or malfunctioning telephone and telecommunications equipment.
• Install electromechanical, analog and digital trunking systems, circuits and related equipment in telecommunications central offices and switching centres.
• Install and configure cable modems, routers, operating systems and software to provide internet access.
• Test and troubleshoot network communication, data transmission and internet connectivity issues.
• Provide consultation and technical support for specialized telephone and data communication services.
• Provide technical support by troubleshooting and repairing cellular phones and other telecommunications devices.
• Initiate the dispatch of appropriate repair personnel when additional or specialized assistance is required.
• Complete and maintain accurate test, installation, maintenance and service reports.
• Instruct and provide technical guidance to apprentices when required.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, coworkers and other stakeholders.

Job Location: various client locations throughout Ottawa and surrounding areas, including Orléans, Barrhaven, Kanata, Carp, Manotick, Carleton Place and other nearby communities.

Employees will travel to clients’ homes and other customer locations to install, inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot and repair telecommunications equipment.

Terms of Employment and Salary:

• Full-time employment
• Morning and day shifts; on-call work may be required
• Wage: $37.00 per hour
• Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week
• Minimum of two years of relevant work experience required
• Criminal record or police clearance check required
• Language of work: English
• Start date of employment: As soon as possible
