We are currently seeking Assistant Accountants to join our head office team in Kelowna. In this role, you will support daily accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, and supporting payroll and financial reporting. Working closely with the accounting team, you will help ensure the accuracy and timely delivery of financial information, support compliance requirements, and contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes.

Job Responsibilities
• Implement efficient head office accounting workflows and coordinate, assign, and review the work of an accounting team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration, financial documentation, and payment processing.
• Establish work priorities, schedules, and procedures to ensure financial transactions, reconciliations, closing activities, and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
• Examine and verify invoices, purchase orders, receiving records, expense claims, payroll information, journal entries, and supporting documents using established approval and three-way matching procedures.
• Review general ledger coding, cost centre and location allocations, tax treatment, and transaction entries to ensure financial information is accurately recorded.
• Authorize routine payments, electronic fund transfers, credits, account adjustments, and other financial transactions within the approved level of authority.
• Monitor the quality and progress of accounting work and ensure compliance with accounting procedures, internal controls, approval limits, and company policies.
• Coordinate accounting activities with other accounting teams, management, payroll, operations, and business locations and obtain the financial information required for centralized reporting.
• Investigate and resolve accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, payment, general ledger, and reconciliation issues escalated by team members or business locations.
• Review bank, credit card, vendor, customer, intercompany, subledger, and general ledger reconciliations and ensure outstanding differences are properly addressed.
• Prepare progress reports, account summaries, aging reports, reconciliation reports, and other financial information for management review.
• Identify training and development needs and provide training, guidance, and technical support to team members regarding job duties, financial systems, internal controls, accounting procedures, and company policies.
• Coordinate system access and work with technical support to resolve accounting software, data entry, or transaction processing issues affecting head office accounting operations.
• Review and reconcile daily sales reports, POS transactions, merchant settlements, deposits, payment records, and transaction reports received from business locations.
• Support month end and year end closing activities, including reviewing journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, trial balances, account balances, and supporting schedules.
• Assist with account consolidation, variance analysis, financial statement preparation, audit working papers, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and management reporting.
• Collaborate with other Assistant Accountants and management to improve accounting workflows, internal controls, recordkeeping, reconciliation, and reporting procedures.
• Perform accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliation, journal entry, and financial recordkeeping duties when additional support is required.
• Perform other related accounting and administrative duties as required.
Required Qualifications
• Degree, diploma, or certificate in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related field.
• Minimum two years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience, including coordinating or reviewing the work of accounting team members.
Required Knowledge & Abilities
• Practical experience with SAP ERP, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger entries, and financial reconciliations.
• Knowledge of Canadian accounting practices, provincial tax requirements, internal controls, and CRA compliance processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain the confidentiality of financial information.
