APS Metal Industries Inc. is a long-established sheet-metal manufacturing company based in Pickering, Ontario. We are currently seeking a permanent full-time Cleaning Supervisor to oversee and coordinate cleaning and sanitation activities across our manufacturing facility.

This position plays a key role in ensuring a safe, clean, and compliant work environment through direct supervision of cleaning staff, adherence to health and safety regulations, and hands-on cleaning where needed. Duties include:

  Supervise, coordinate and lead a team of cleaners to ensure that all areas of the facility are maintained in accordance with established cleanliness, sanitation and occupational health and safety standards.

  Prepare and maintain employee work schedules, assign duties, monitor attendance and performance, and adjust staffing arrangements based on operational requirements.

  Participate in the recruitment, training, supervision and, where necessary, discipline or termination of cleaning staff in accordance with company policies.

  Perform hands-on cleaning duties when required to support the team, address urgent operational needs and demonstrate proper cleaning methods and safety practices.

  Conduct regular inspections of production areas, offices, washrooms and common areas to identify sanitation concerns, workplace hazards and non-compliance with established procedures.

  Ensure that cleaning activities are performed using safe work practices, including the proper handling, labelling, use and storage of cleaning products and chemicals in accordance with WHMIS requirements.

  Train cleaning staff in the safe use of industrial cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums and pressure washers, and in the proper use of personal protective equipment.

  Monitor compliance with site-specific health and safety procedures, including fall prevention, chemical spill response, hazardous-material handling and safe waste disposal.

  Maintain accurate cleaning schedules, inspection reports, safety checklists and other records required for internal reviews, audits and inspections.

  Respond promptly to spills, contamination, sanitation concerns and safety incidents, and coordinate appropriate containment, cleaning and corrective measures.

  Participate in workplace health and safety meetings and recommend improvements to cleaning, sanitation and safety procedures.

  Develop and revise cleaning schedules, work procedures and staffing plans to reflect production requirements, operational priorities and changes to applicable safety standards.

  Act as the primary liaison between the cleaning team and facility management regarding staffing, sanitation concerns, cleaning supplies, equipment and resource requirements.

  Carry out related administrative duties, including maintaining records, preparing reports and communicating operational or safety concerns to management.

 

Compensation package:

-          Wage of $36.92 per hour with 40 to 60 hours a week of workload and need for overtime

-          Corporate benefits including medical insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, paid vacation (10 business days per year)

Work Schedule: The work schedule will be determined based on the operational and cleaning requirements of the manufacturing facility. The successful applicant must be available to work 10-hour shifts, primarily during the following hours:

  • Evening shift: 3:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
  • Night shift: 1:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Day shift, when required: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Scheduled workdays may vary from week to week and will generally fall between Monday and Saturday. Sunday work may occasionally be required.

Skills Requirements

-          Completion of secondary school is required

-          Minimum 1 year of cleaning experience in different workplace setting

-          Ability to lead, motivate, and train a team while maintaining high cleanliness standards

-          Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks for extended periods

-          Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills

-          Experience following established cleaning procedures, safety rules, and hygiene protocols

-          Demonstrated ability to work in structured environments where cleanliness, order, and safety are critical

-          Specialized knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including proper use of cleaning products and equipment

-          Awareness of workplace safety procedures and ability to follow site-specific safety instructions

-          Ability to identify and report safety hazards, spills, or sanitation issues promptly

-          Commitment to maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for all staff

-          Strong attention to detail and sense of responsibility

-          Physically able to perform cleaning duties throughout a full shift

-          Basic understanding of industrial machinery and cleaning equipment maintenance

-          Ability to communicate in English to understand safety instructions, follow cleaning procedures, and report issues to supervisors

  • APS Metal Industries is Controlled Goods certified. Because of this, we require the successful applicant to pass a full criminal background check.
  • The successful applicant must be comfortable working with and around a number of extremely hazardous materials and biproducts in the shop, such as:
    • Haxavalent Chromium
    • Cadmium
    • Baryllium
    • Lead
    • Nickel compounds
    • Zinc Oxide fumes
    • Silica dust
    • Various chemical solvents & oils such as:

- Benzene

- Toluene

- Formaldehyde
