SENIOR CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR

About the Opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Construction Estimator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, managing tendering activities, coordinating with project stakeholders, and supporting the successful delivery of commercial, industrial, institutional, civil, and residential construction projects.  This position is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. 

Specific Tasks/Responsibilities: 

• Prepare estimates of labour and/or material, equipment costs for building projects using contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications. 

• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements

• Create and keep up suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors directory. 

• Provide guidance on how to conduct tenders, review and evaluate them, suggest awards, and engage in negotiations. 

• Operate CADD and other computer software systems 

• Create and manage a tendering process and implement methods and procedures for cost monitoring and reporting. 

• Utilize quantity take-off procedures 

• Prepare predictions and cost and spending statements on a regular basis during the project’s length.

• Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and project costs 

• Monitor and adjust contract expenditures 

• Prepare economic feasibility studies on modifications and adjustments to cost estimates and coordinate, discuss, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors. 

• Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors 

• Prepare construction progress schedules and oversee and organize construction projects. 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS 

Languages: English 

Education: 

Applicants must possess one of the following: 

• Completion of a three-year college program in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology; or 

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; or 

• An equivalent combination of education and extensive construction estimating experience. 

• Master's Degree (recommended) 

Experience 

• Minimum 5 years of work experience in construction, estimating, and/or related field 

• Senior estimating experience is considered a strong asset.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

Computer and technology knowledge: Quantity Take-Off Software, Estimating packages, Take-off packages, Spreadsheet, AutoCAD, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
