JOB SUMMARY
Stony Ridge Medical Centre is seeking two qualified Internal Medicine Specialists (Internists) to join our growing multidisciplinary medical team in Edmonton, Alberta.
The successful candidates will provide comprehensive, evidence-based medical care to adult patients, with a particular focus on complex and multi-system medical conditions, chronic disease management, preventive care, and continuity of care.
The clinic serves a large and diverse patient population, including elderly patients and individuals with multiple chronic medical conditions. The successful candidates will benefit from an established patient base, a strong referral network, administrative support, and opportunities to collaborate with family physicians, specialists, and allied health professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Diagnose and manage a broad range of acute and chronic adult medical conditions, including complex multi-system diseases.
• Provide comprehensive Internal Medicine consultations and longitudinal follow-up care.
• Conduct detailed medical histories and complete physical examinations.
• Order, review, and interpret laboratory investigations, diagnostic imaging, electrocardiograms, and other clinical investigations.
• Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment and follow-up plans.
• Manage chronic medical conditions, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, renal disorders, and other complex illnesses.
• Provide preventive care, screening, health counselling, and risk-factor modification.
• Prescribe and manage medications, including monitoring treatment effectiveness, adverse effects, and potential drug interactions.
• Coordinate patient care with family physicians, other specialists, hospitals, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
• Arrange appropriate referrals and ensure continuity of care.
• Communicate investigation results, diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up recommendations clearly to patients and their families.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical documentation in accordance with the standards of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
• Participate in quality-improvement activities, continuing medical education, and clinical best-practice initiatives.
EDUCATION
• Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent from a recognized medical institution.
• Successful completion of a residency training program in Internal Medicine.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING
• Certification or eligibility for certification in Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent recognized specialty certification.
• Eligible for registration and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
• Eligible to obtain appropriate medical liability protection.
EXPERIENCE
• Previous clinical experience assessing and managing adult patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions is required.
• Experience managing patients with multiple coexisting medical conditions is an asset.
• Candidates who have recently completed an approved Internal Medicine residency program may be considered, provided they meet the applicable certification and Alberta licensing requirements.

• Regular collaboration with physicians, nurses, medical office assistants, and allied health professionals.
