Browns Socialhouse Uptown is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and hardworking Prep Chef to join our culinary team. This is a physically demanding role that requires speed, consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of food quality and safety.
The Prep Chef is responsible for ensuring the kitchen is fully prepared for service each day by executing all prep production efficiently, maintaining inventory standards, and supporting the culinary team in delivering an exceptional guest experience.
Responsibilities
- Execute large-volume daily food preparation according to Browns Socialhouse recipes, specifications, and presentation standards.
- Complete prep production accurately while meeting strict timelines.
- Prepare meats, seafood, vegetables, sauces, soups, dressings, desserts, and other menu components from scratch.
- Maintain consistent quality, portion control, and product yield.
- Receive, inspect, organize, rotate, and properly store inventory using FIFO principles.
- Monitor product quality and immediately report shortages or quality concerns.
- Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized, and sanitary workstation throughout every shift.
- Follow all FoodSafe, WorkSafeBC, and Browns Socialhouse operating standards.
- Support line cooks during peak service periods as required.
- Assist with deep cleaning, equipment maintenance, and end-of-day kitchen organization.
- Work efficiently with minimal supervision while adapting to changing priorities and business demands.
- Proficiency in Optimum Control required.
- Ability to create and maintain par levels for the restaurant.
- Proficiency in ordering.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of high-volume commercial kitchen or restaurant experience preferred.
- Strong knife skills and proficiency with food preparation techniques.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
- Commitment to cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and safely lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.
- FoodSafe Level 1 certification required (or willingness to obtain immediately).
