Job description / main duties

Finbar’s is looking for a full‑time Line Cook to join our kitchen team in Halifax. The successful candidate will work as part of a small, busy team preparing high‑quality pub food and daily specials.

Main duties include:

  • Preparing and cooking complete meals and individual dishes according to our recipes and standards

  • Preparing ingredients and mise en place for service (washing, chopping, marinating, portioning, etc.)

  • Ensuring consistency in taste, portion size, and presentation for all menu items

  • Following food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures at all times

  • Cleaning and maintaining work areas, equipment, and utensils after each shift

  • Assisting with inventory checks, rotation, and storage of food and supplies

  • Minimizing food waste and contributing to cost control

  • Working cooperatively with other kitchen and front‑of‑house staff during busy periods

  • Training or helping guide junior kitchen helpers as required

Job requirements

  • Experience: Minimum [1–2] years recent experience as a cook or line cook in a restaurant or similar commercial kitchen

  • Language: Basic to intermediate English – able to understand orders, read tickets and safety instructions, and communicate with the team

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to [20–25] kg as needed

  • Strong reliability, punctuality, and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment

  • Food safety certification (or willingness to obtain it shortly after hire)
