Position name:            Child Caregiver

 

Location of work:        Homes in Vancouver, BC

On East Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC.

On East 6th Avenue, Vancouver, BC

 

Nature of position:      Permanent, full-time (40 hours per week). The working hours would be allocated as follows:

1)      24 hours per week on East Georgia Street;

2)      16 hours per week on East 6th Avenue.

 

Wage:                          $23.00 per hour. A bonus may be paid from time-to-time, at the sole discretion of the employer.

 

Vacation:                     10 days, but additional days may be given when employers are out of town.

 

Language required:     English, spoken and written

 

Other benefits:            Bus pass or travel reimbursement provided for work-related travel during working hours.

JOB DUTIES. The following duties will be performed in this position:

 

  • Supervise and care for children in employer's or own residence
  • Bathe, dress and feed infants and children
  • Prepare formulas and change diapers for infants
  • Plan, prepare and serve meals for children and may perform other housekeeping duties
  • Oversee children's activities, such as meals and rest periods, as instructed by employer
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home
  • Instruct children in personal hygiene
  • Tend to the emotional well-being of children and support their social development
  • Discipline children according to the methods requested by the parents
  • Provide age-appropriate educational training through organized activities such as games, crafts, reading and outings
  • Take children to and from school and appointments
  • May be required to keep records of daily activities and health information regarding each child.

 

REQUIREMENTS. The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:

 

  • Completion of secondary school
  • Completion of a training program in childcare or a related field, or one year of experience as a caregiver, is required
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work
  • First Aid certification
  • Experience in the Vancouver childcare community will be considered a strong asset.
