Video Editor (internal product creation)

The Video Editor will support the creation of digital educational materials for a public-facing rare-books and cultural-heritage initiative related to the Rare Collections educational platform. Working with pre-selected source materials (images, video clips, voice recordings, documents, and rough lecture outlines), the participant will assemble high-quality educational videos and presentations under the guidance of the project supervisor.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Experience in CapCut is required. Equivalent tools (Adobe Premiere, etc.) to create clear and coherent educational videos can also be used.
- Organizing media assets according to project outlines provided by the supervisor (without determining content structure or narrative design) - photos, archival images, video clips, audio files, and written content.
- Editing and assembling video sequences based on pre-defined scripts, storyboards, and learning modules provided by the supervisor
- Creating motion graphics strictly to support existing educational explanations (not designing instructional content independently)
- Synchronizing voice-over recordings with the pace and structure of video segments and presentations.
- Creating basic motion-graphics elements such as animated text, transitions, arrows, overlays, and simple line-drawing animations that visually explain the content described in the narration.
- Designing PowerPoint slides based on pre-organized material; integrating these slides into video presentations; and ensuring consistency of layout, timing, structure, and visual identity.
- Adding music, sound effects, and ambient audio where appropriate.
- Conducting basic colour correction, cropping, and image adjustments to ensure visual clarity and consistency.
- Maintaining organized file structures, naming conventions, and version control for all project materials.
- Preparing multiple output formats (horizontal, vertical, and square video ratios) as required for educational use on different platforms.
- Communicating regularly with the supervisor to refine drafts, incorporate feedback, and adjust materials to meet project needs.
- Performing quality-control checks to ensure that edited videos are clear, accurate, and aligned with the learning objectives of each module.
Secondary tasks (as needed):
- Assisting with simple digital tasks such as exporting presentation slides, adding captions, or formatting short clips for web or accessibility purposes.
- Contributing ideas on how to improve the clarity, structure, or engagement of educational content, within the boundaries of the provided material.
Administration and Coordination
Participate in weekly check-ins with the coordinator to review progress and provide updates on work activities.
Document work progress and completed tasks in shared project sheets.
All tasks will be completed remotely, using the participant’s own computer and editing tools, with regular check-ins and shared online workspace access provided by the organization. The participant will receive ongoing mentorship and training in digital content production, visual communication, and workflow organization.
