Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Geological Technologist to support our field and laboratory operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting senior geologists, conducting surveys, preparing samples, and contributing to environmental management programs. This is an on-site role in Edmonton.
Detailed Job Duties:
Field Work:
Conduct geological, geophysical, geochemical, hydrographic, and oceanographic surveys
Participate in exploratory drilling, well logging, and underground mine surveys
Assist with prospecting field trips and sample collection
Support hydrogeological field investigations
Laboratory & Sample Preparation:
Prepare and supervise rock, mineral, and metal samples for analysis
Conduct physical and chemical tests on geological samples
Maintain accurate records of laboratory data and test results
Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards
Environmental & Compliance:
Assist in conducting environmental audits and reporting
Design measures to minimize environmental impact of mining and oil & gas operations
Support hydrogeological studies, including field and lab components
Collaborate with team members to ensure regulatory compliance
Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare detailed geological maps, sketches, notes, and cross-sections
Maintain filing systems, records, and data management
Assist in drafting reports for clients and regulatory agencies
Provide technical support to senior geologists and project managers
Supervision & Support:
Oversee preparation of samples and lab work for junior staff or interns
Assist in supervising oil and gas well drilling, completions, and work-overs
Provide guidance and support to ensure project goals are met safely and efficiently
Qualifications:
College/CEGEP diploma in Geological Technology or related field
1–2 years of relevant experience in geological or environmental work
Strong analytical, observational, and fieldwork skills
Ability to work on-site in Edmonton and travel to field locations as needed
Proficiency in using geological mapping software and laboratory equipment
