Cégep Heritage College is located in Gatineau, Québec, next to the National Capital Region’s Gatineau Park. It is the region’s only public, tuition-free, English-language college, offering innovative and personalized instruction across Career, Pre-University and Continuing Education programs in its modern, state-of-the-art facilities. ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director General, the Academic Dean is responsible for all aspects of the administration of academic programs at Cégep Heritage College, and within the existing administrative structures, for the attainment of the College’s academic mission and objectives. The Academic Dean is a recognized leader with a collaborative approach to management, values a student-centered philosophy of education and has an extensive knowledge of Cégep college education and curriculum development. The Academic Dean demonstrates commitment to formal quality assurance processes for a Cégep environment and is familiar with the Cégep system in the Quebec educational context for both regular and Continuing Education and with educational technologies.

The Academic Dean needs to understand the realities faced by our English-language college situated in the Outaouais region of Québec.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

More specifically, the Academic Dean is responsible for:

  • ensuring the quality of teaching and learning in the College.
  • ensures compliance with Ministry and the Fédération des Cégeps’ policies and regulations.
  • ensuring the development of strategic planning for Academic Services.
  • the evaluation of teaching, student learning and programs.
  • the management of human, material and financial resources related to teaching.
  • assuming responsibility for the development and management of institutional academic policies.
  • managing (planning, organization, direction, control and evaluation) of all academic programs and departments as well as all academic matters of the College.
  • being ex officio chair of the Academic Senate.
  • being an ex officio member of the Board of Governors.
  • assuming all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director General, by College bylaw or policy or by resolution of the Board.
  • exercising the duties and powers of the Director General if the latter is absent or unable to act.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bilingualism is required, with strong communication skills in both English and French (spoken and written). Candidates may be required to undergo language testing to confirm proficiency levels.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in a formal management position involving administrative oversight and direct leadership of staff.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and multicultural communities.
  • Six (6) years of full-time teaching experience, preferably at the Cégep level.
  • Management experience at a Cegep (e.g. Academic Dean, Associate Academic Dean, or Dean) would be considered an asset.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • This is an in- person, on-site position at the College.
  • Ability to travel within Quebec for meetings.
  • This position involves occasional evening and weekend work.

 

SALARY RANGE

Commensurate with the norms of the Ministère de l'Education et de l’Enseignement Supérieur for a Class 11 position, a salary between $119 091.00 and $158 784.00 will be offered. The term of office may be set for an initial 3 to 5 years, and is renewable for subsequent terms.
