Job Description

BAT Construction Ltd. is a Canadian leader in Slope Stabilization and Geotechnical Construction, and we are expanding to meet the growing demand for our expert services. We are currently hiring experienced Rope Access Technicians based out of Kamloops, B.C., Rainy River Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba (and other sites) to work in Rope Access and Geotechnical Stabilization projects throughout Western Canada. We are seeking Rope Access Technicians with geotechnical experience, but specifically Level 2 and 3 positions which require leadership and judgement skills as well as an exceptional ability to organize, plan, and anticipate potential adversity. The ideal candidate will have related industry experience. Experience in geotechnical slope remediation, anchoring, scaling, mesh and rockfall systems, structural inspections, and related industries are an asset. Applicants with a thorough understanding of Geotechnical hazard mitigation, slope stabilization, or rope access will be given preference. Geotechnical or engineering education is considered an asset.

Our Rope Access Technicians work closely with BAT's Leadership Team as well as clients and and contractors and will consistently build and maintain these relationships by aligning with our Core Values.

The ideal candidate will have experience in geo technical drilling for anchors, mesh installation, scaling, high angle rope work, various types of drilling, and shoring. They will need to display a good understanding of slope mitigation at all levels. The Rope Access Technicians work in small teams; it is essential that the successful candidate has a reputation of proven interpersonal and communication skills.

Applicants may be required to travel and work in remote locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform drilling operations in various environments using rope access techniques.
  • Set up and operate drilling equipment, ensuring all equipment is well-maintained and in working order.
  • Conduct pre-operation safety checks, risk assessments, and work in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Inspect and maintain drilling equipment and tools regularly to ensure optimal functioning.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other crew members to coordinate activities on-site.
  • Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, safety checks, and equipment usage.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and management to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and safety throughout drilling operations.
  • Ensure project timelines and budgets are adhered to.
  • Work in remote locations as required, and participate in ongoing training to improve skills and safety standards.

Requirements:

  • Valid Rope Access certification (IRATA)
  • Strong understanding of techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively at height and in challenging environments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and strength for manual tasks and working at height.
  • A commitment to safety protocols and a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to job sites as required.
  • First Aid certification and other relevant safety certifications are an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ground support systems or geotechnical construction.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and legislation relevant to work at height and drilling operations.
  • Relevant education in geotechnical engineering, civil construction, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience as a driller, preferably in geotechnical or industrial construction environments is an asset
