Transportation Logistics Manager – Ocean Freight

Salary  $40 - $45 / hour, annual$78,000 to $87,750

1vacancy

Permanent, 37.5 hours per week

Job requirements:

Languages: English

Education: Bachelor's degree, formal logistics training a significant asset

Experience: minimum five years dealing with Asia Pacific Ocean freight carriers and their practices 

Ability to Supervise: 2-4 support staff

Transportation/Travel Information:Willing to travel

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: ability to work under pressure (i.e. develop creative solutions to shipping issues while under tight time frames)

Personal Suitability: Organized, effective interpersonal communicator

Additional Skills:Ability to work within an industry faced with historical logistical issues

Specific Skills:

General Duties

  • oversee the organization and practices of the ocean freight division and implement new operating procedures as needed

Specific Duties

  • act as subject matter expert for ad hoc operational questions regarding company ocean freight accounts
  • strategically manage existing ocean freight contracts
  • adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations
  • monitor division’s performance, prepare reports for senior management
  • manage ocean freight support team performing:
    • negotiation of rates and contract terms with ocean carriers
    • resolution of issues with shipping lines, ports, and container freight stations and carriers
    • accuracy of invoices, bills of lading, shipping statements, and theachievement of key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • audit of any detention/demurrage
    • update shipment status, identify incidents and ensure resolution of the incident
    • develop and manage division support team, as operationally required
    • oversee the setting of transportation service rates, monitor revenue to ensure projections are met
    • all otherrelated duties as may be assigned by senior management
